at Esperanza, south coast of Vieques
Spend Your Days: One Day: See the biobay with Golden Heron Ecotours excursion at 4 pm into the Mangrove Canals and out to a pretty pristine beach that can only be reached by kayak. Easy swimming, music and dinner as the sun sets. Then paddle into the Bioluminescent Bay at dusk. When the stars come out, swim in the fairy dust! ends at 8:00 PM +. Catered dinner on the beach. $75. per person. One Day: Red Beach and Orchid Beach These two Beaches are color therapy for world weary people. The colors are so blue at Red and so green and white at Orchid; perhaps the sand is even slightly orchid! These are the two most beautiful beaches imaginable. Media Luna and Navio Beach: ( waves) Just pure relaxation at these two beaches. Take two beach chairs and a beach umbrella ( can be rented from Abes' Snorkeling in Esperanza. Media Luna is flat calm and Navio has waves and is as turquoise as you can imagine a beach to be. Navio beach in photo above. The snorkeling at both Navio and Media Luna is quite far out and should only be attempted by very experienced snorkelers. One Day: Green Beach, Snorkeling along the pier and the Ceiba Tree: in the morning, easy snorkeling on your own or just swim and lie on the beach. On your return take a drive out on the mile and a quarter long pier that extends far into the sea. Look back at the magnificent view of Vieques in the golden afternoon sun. Snorkeling on the lee side of the pier is very good. Stop for a few minutes at the 300 year old Ceiba tree and take your picture within the roots! One Day: Culebra Island -The only way to get to Culebra Island and back to Vieques the same day is to take a private charter air flight with Golden Heron Ecotours. At present there is no commercial ferry nor air flights running. One Day: El Yunque Rain forest: Take an early 15 minute flight to Fajardo and rent a car at the airport or by the ferry dock. ...... drive up the south side of El Yunque and be met by a naturalist guide to take an excursion up into the El Yunque Rainforest. Or drive up to the north side of El Yunque and walk on the many trails ( tour buses go to this side). Return to Vieques late afternoon ferry or plane. Seventh Day... is the best! • Full Day Snorkeling with Golden Heron Ecotours: Guided Snorkeling to Blue Tang Reef for experienced snorkelers (by motorboat) and the Gorgonian Grotto or Guided Snorkeling instruction OR for beginners. - Lunch served on a distant beach.
